Thin Films and Coatings

Overview

Coatings and films, in the form of cold sprays, oxide layers, and other features, can be either added naturally or artificially to improve the mechanical, electrical and/or corrosive properties of a bulk material. Regardless of how they are made, it is important to analyze their cross-section to understand how well they stick to the base material, as well as the coating’s or film’s microstructure to best understand its properties and impact on the bulk sample.
