Biography:
Louis Ortiz-Flores earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez in December 2023. He gained research experience through internships and summer programs at the University of Connecticut, focusing on advanced materials characterization techniques, renewable energy technologies, and additive manufacturing. His projects included the development of hydrogen fuel cell membranes using electrospinning and platinum deposition, as well as innovative material development for engineering design applications. He begins his M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering at UConn in Fall 2024, working with Dr. Mark Aindow’s research group on the study of novel alloys and materials for extreme environments.
Current Interests:
Advanced Materials Characterization Techniques: Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and tomographic-AFM (T-AFM) for 3D modeling; Renewable Energy; Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing: Metal 3D printing technologies for aerospace and submarine applications, with a keen interest in the development of novel alloys and composite materials for extreme environments.
